Verdict
The iCombi Pro XS is the right choice for bistros, food trucks, small cafe-restaurants and hotel breakfast kitchens where space is limited. Premium Rational features in a compact housing. Not suitable for long product cuts or volumes above 60 covers per day.
What is the iCombi Pro XS
The Rational iCombi Pro XS is the smallest model in Rational's premium line, introduced for situations where the standard 6-1/1 does not fit. With dimensions of 55.5 x 65.5 x 75.5 cm it sits on a countertop or in a narrow kitchen, while offering the full Rational intelligence.
It uses 6 rack levels for 2/3 GN trays (43.5 x 35.4 cm) instead of the standard 1/1 GN. Capacity: 30–60 covers per day in normal operation, up to 80 at peak times with smart loading. Consumption: 5.7 kW electric, half that of the 6-1/1 Pro.
Three strengths
What sets the XS apart from compact competitors like the Unox ChefTop Mini or Convotherm 4 mini is the complete Rational functionality without any compromise on intelligence. The same iCookingSuite, the same sensor technology, the same Active Clean.
- Full Rational intelligence: self-learning cooking process, automatic recognition of product and desired result. No Pro features removed.
- Active Clean compatible: yes, even in the XS. No more manual cleaning, even in compact kitchens.
- Energy efficient: the low consumption of 5.7 kW makes the XS particularly economical for smaller operations.
Three limitations you should know
The XS is not a scaled-down 6-1/1. Some things a larger oven does better. Be honest upfront about your load profile so you don't have to replace the unit after two years.
- 2/3 GN trays are smaller: whole turkeys, long sausages, large fish varieties do not fit. Check your menu upfront.
- Capacity limit is around 60 covers/day: if you grow beyond this threshold you will need to replace the unit. For growing operations you should consider the 6-1/1 directly.
- Higher cost per cover than the 6-1/1: per cover, a larger oven is more efficient. The XS has a different calculation: space saved outweighs higher cost per cover.

Who is the XS not suitable for?
The XS is not the right choice for restaurants from 60–80 covers per day, for catering operations with large peaks, for hotel kitchens with high dinner volume, or for production kitchens running batch operations. In these situations the standard 6-1/1 or even the 10-1/1 is more efficient.
Also if your menu contains long products (poultry, large fish, long sausages or bread rolls), go straight to the 1/1 GN formats. More fits inside, with more flexibility.
